Privacy Policy

Introduction
Welcome to Game Verdict (gameverdict.app). We respect your privacy and want to be transparent about how we handle your data. This policy explains what information we collect and how it is used.
Data We Collect
Anonymous Visitors
If you browse Game Verdict without an account:
- Browser Fingerprint: We use the open-source version of FingerprintJS to generate a unique identifier (voter_fp). This is computed entirely in your browser and is not sent to Fingerprint Inc. We use this solely to prevent duplicate votes and it is never linked to your real identity.
- IP Address: Stored for rate limiting and to prevent spam on feedback forms.
- Local Storage: We store small pieces of data in your browser's localStorage to remember UI preferences (like dismissed notifications or UI state). This stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.
Registered Accounts
If you create an account, we collect:
- Identity Data: Your email address (managed via Supabase Auth) and a hashed version of your password (which we never see).
- Profile Data: Your chosen username, optional avatar URL, and preferences. We also store a Gravatar hash (MD5 of your email) to display your avatar if you use that service.
- Activity Data: Your votes, comments, direct messages, friend relationships, and badges earned.
How We Use Your Data
- To provide the core functionality of the site (voting and community discussion).
- To prevent abuse, such as "vote stuffing" or spam.
- To send transactional emails (notifications for replies, friend requests, or milestones) via Resend. You can opt out of non-essential notifications in your settings.
Third-Party Services
We use several trusted partners to help run Game Verdict:
- Supabase: Database and authentication.
- PostHog: Product analytics (they collect basic browser metadata and IP per their own policy).
- Vercel: Hosting and edge functions.
- Resend: Transactional email delivery.
- Affiliate Partners: We use Amazon Associates and Humble Bundle (Impact.com) links. Clicking these may involve their own tracking per their respective privacy policies.
Your Choices
You can update your profile privacy settings, notification preferences, or request account deletion at any time through your account dashboard.
